I have always had a sweet tooth and have recently discovered a love for the old fashioned afternoon tradition of High Tea. There is nothing more delightful than relaxing in the company of great people over some delicious comfort food while sipping on hot tea. Having grown up on the NSW South Coast the area is a favourite place of mine so when I heard that Bodalla Bakery were offering a High Tea experience I couldn’t help but travel down there to try it out.
Historic Bodalla is located on the picturesque South Coast on the Princes Highway between the towns of Moruya and Narooma. The bakery itself can be found in a quaint little cottage on the main street. Bodalla Bakery is one of those little gems that you just can’t pass by if you are travelling through the area. They are known in the area for their delicious pies and baked treats and the location makes it a perfect place to stop for takeaway for the road. The Bakery also offers a cosy interior inside where you can eat for the cooler days or a terrace outside where you can relax in the sunshine enjoying the country surrounds.
If you are looking for a more special experience the bakery are currently hosting High Tea once a month on a Sunday. Apart from the tea and food, the atmosphere is the most important thing that really makes a great High Tea and Bodalla Bakery certainly does an amazing job of this.
The High Tea is held inside the cottage on charming country style décor in amongst a gift shop filled with a gorgeous selection of items to browse through. The décor and the exceptionally friendly and welcoming staff create a warm and homely atmosphere that make it a perfect place to relax and enjoy your afternoon at a leisurely pace.
We were delighted at the selection of indulgent sweet treats, macaroons, scones, and savoury mini pies and sandwiches all served to our table on a decadent three-tiered stand. The scones with jam and cream were exceptionally fluffy and scrumptious and the white chocolate and raspberry mousse cups tasted as gorgeous as they looked. All of the food we were served had that delicious fresh home made taste to it and was complemented by what seemed like an endless supply of the most refreshing fruity non-alcoholic punch.
If that is not enough to induce a sugar coma each guest also receives a cute little gift bag of chocolates to take home!
We finished up our afternoon with a pot of our choice of hot loose leaf tea and a ponder over what to buy from the gift shop. There are so many beautiful items it’s hard to leave without buying something!
The High Tea was fantastic value for the price and the experience was definitely worth the drive. I would definitely recommend popping this one on your list next time you are heading down to the South Coast region!
